Why Honesty, Connection, and ‘No’ Will Save You This Year

Every year we say it:“I’ll be glad when this year is over.”“I’ll start fresh in January.”

As if midnight turns you into a superhero. You may have even heard a sermon or two about Paul and Silas praying in Jail, and at midnight, the doors flew open. I get you... But...

Newsflash: Midnight doesn’t always bring miracles... Jesus does.

The ball dropping won’t drop bad habits.

Confetti won’t pay bills

Champagne won’t fix character.

New year.Same you.

Change doesn’t come from the clock. It comes from Christ.

And while we’re here—let’s talk honesty.

Integrity is sometimes all you have.

If you say you’ll be there—be there.

If you don’t have it—say you don’t.

If you don't want to do something - Just say "NO"

“No” is a holy word. “No” is liberating. “No” saves relationships.

Lying is exhausting. Truth sets you free.

Just ask Olive Oyl.

She wanted Popeye’s love and Bluto’s money. She straddled the fence. And when trouble came, she knew who to call.

You may have left God.But you’re going to need Him.

And the good news is... He still shows up.

So will this year be easy? No.

But can it be done? Yes.

Lift your head. Square your shoulders. Take the step.

You don’t have to do everything. Just say: “I can do this.”

Because if God is for you,Who can be against you?

Your Strength Fails When Connection Breaks

If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you[a] will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. ~ John 15:7

You can’t draw strength from a Savior you don’t stay connected to.

Think about your house.

Electricity flows from the pole, to the meter, to your home. When the lights go out, it’s usually not the power source.

It’s the meter.

Same with gas.Same with water. The supply has been flowing for decades. The interruption is somewhere in between.

And when disconnection is coming, they warn you. They send a notice. They give you numbers to call. Payment plans.Grace Periods. Options. Help is available—but only if you reach out.

That’s prayer.

The original wireless connection—paid for at Calvary.

Yet we let our spiritual meters get shut off. We make church optional. We isolate. We block people. We stop communicating. And then we wonder why we’re weak, without power, and in the dark.

Even relationships work this way. Just like an electrical current needs a Positive lead and a negative lead connected together in order for any of you appliances to function; Positive and negative situations must stay connected for power to flow. Positive supplies your joy, Negative supplies your wisdom. Disconnect them, and the power of your relationship go out, and both parties are left in the dark.

Some “negative” voices aren’t attacks. They’re truth—and truth keeps systems running.

A closed mouth doesn’t get fed. You have to communicate. You have to stay connected.

Because strength doesn’t disappear. It gets disconnected.

Paul, Prison, and Praising Anyway

Paul didn’t write “I can do all things” from a palace. He wrote it from prison.

Not because he did wrong. But because he did right.

False accusations. A riot. Roman soldiers dragging him away—not to punish him, but to keep him alive.

Here’s a hard lesson:Truth doesn’t exempt you from trouble.

You can tell the truth and still get lied on. You can do right and still be mistreated. You can walk in integrity and still get misunderstood.

Sometimes truth doesn’t protect you. It provokes people who don’t want to hear it.

Paul spends years locked up. He appeals his case. And that appeal sends him through storms, shipwrecks, and even a snake bite.

Wait—appealing for justice made things worse? Yep!

Because obedience doesn’t cancel hardship. It just gives hardship a purpose.

Paul ends up chained to a Roman guard. Restricted movement. Limited freedom.

But his faith is free and his praise is unrestricted.

That’s the power: They can chain your body. They can limit your options. But they cannot steal your joy!

And from that place Paul declares,“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

Not because the situation changed. But because Jesus stayed.

Even when truth gets you in trouble,Christ keeps your strength.
