Don’t Step on Me—I’m Still Becoming

Some people meet you during the hardest season of your life and assume they have seen the whole story.

They encounter your fear and call you weak. They witness a failure and decide you cannot be trusted with anything again. They see you moving slowly and conclude you have no future.

**Be careful how you handle somebody who is still becoming.**

That includes how you handle yourself.

Growth requires correction, responsibility, patience, and repeated practice. It also requires room to be a beginner.

Your first healthy boundary might come out with a trembling voice. Your first honest apology might feel awkward. Learning to respond calmly may involve leaving the room before you can return with better words.

Keep practicing.

Moses had to face the consequences of his actions and later respond to God’s call. Peter had to confront his denial and receive responsibility after failure.

Then we come to Jesus.

Jesus was without sin; His growth was not a movement away from wrongdoing. Yet Luke 2:52 tells us that He grew in wisdom and stature. His earthly life included years before His public ministry.

Hidden years have value.

And when His ministry led to the cross, Jesus truly suffered and died. His resurrection gives Christian hope its foundation: the crucified Savior lives.

We should not turn that hope into a promise that every painful situation will resolve on our preferred schedule. We can trust the living Christ while facing what remains difficult and unfinished.

Philippians 1:6 points us toward confidence in God’s continuing work.

So participate in that work.

Tell the truth. Accept correction. Make repairs. Receive help. Take the next faithful step, even when it is small.

And when you encounter somebody else doing the same, offer care along with accountability.

**Don’t crush their courage because their progress is incomplete.**

We all need grace for the distance between where we stand and who we are learning to become.

God is still working on us. Let’s give one another room to grow.
