How Deep Is Your Love?

Writer: John YoungJohn Young

In the book of Hosea, we find one of the most profound illustrations of God's love for His people. The Lord commanded Hosea to marry Gomer, a promiscuous woman, to serve as a living metaphor for Israel’s unfaithfulness. Despite Gomer’s continual wandering, Hosea kept bringing her back, mirroring the relentless love God has for His people. This story is not just about an ancient prophet; it is about us. It’s about how, time and time again, we stray, yet God remains faithful, always calling us back to Him.

In the New Testament, John 3:16-17 reinforces this deep love: "For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved." God’s love is not contingent on our righteousness—it is steadfast and unwavering. He loves us in our brokenness, in our mistakes, in our wandering, just as Hosea loved Gomer.

Consider the concept of first love. Many can recall their first love—the innocence, the depth, the intensity. That love was raw, pure, and unforgettable. Now imagine a love even deeper than that. That’s God’s love. It’s not based on what we do or who we are, but on who He is. His love is sacrificial, unconditional, and eternal.

Too often, people believe they are unworthy of love because of their past or present struggles. They may feel cast aside, judged, or abandoned. But the message of the Gospel is clear: God loves you—no matter where you are, no matter what you’ve done.

God’s love is jealous, as Exodus 34:14 says: "Do not worship any other god, for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God." Just as a lover is pained by unfaithfulness, God desires our full devotion. He longs for a relationship with us, not out of obligation, but out of deep, personal love.

Hosea’s story illustrates a love that buys back, redeems, and restores. Just as Hosea had to purchase Gomer back, Christ paid the ultimate price to redeem us. His suffering on the cross was not in vain—it was the price of love, the proof of His relentless pursuit of us. Even when we are unfaithful, He remains faithful.

So, the question remains: How deep is your love? Do you love God out of convenience, or do you love Him with all your heart? Love, true love, never fails. It endures, it forgives, it redeems. God’s love is deeper than any pain, any past, any mistake. And today, He stands at the door and knocks, waiting for you to let Him in.

God loves you—yes, you. No matter where you are, no matter what you've done. His love is deep, immeasurable, and eternal. Will you accept it?
