“I Can… Just Not Like I Used To”

Why ‘I Can’t’ Is Often a Lie We Tell Ourselves

Philippians 4:13 says it plainly:“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

Not I might.Not I hope.Not I’ll try.

I can.

But if we’re honest, many of us start a new year saying the opposite.“I can’t do this.”“I don’t have it in me anymore.”“I’m too tired.”

Here’s the uncomfortable truth: Most people who keep saying I can’t actually can.

The real issue isn’t ability—it’s adjustment.

You don’t move like you used to. You don’t stay up like you used to. You don’t recover like you used to.

You can still do it. You just can’t do it the same way.

Some of us need to do it slower. Some of us need to do it earlier. Some of us need to admit that 9 PM is the new midnight.

That’s not weakness.That’s wisdom.

Before we shout this year. Before we declare this year. Before we post about this year.

Let’s tell the truth.

Some of us crossed into the new year tired, not triumphant. Hurting, not healed. Still facing the same bills, diagnosis, family tension, grief, pressure, and temptation.

New year.Same weight.

Paul didn’t say I can because life was easier. He said I can because Christ was stronger.

This verse isn’t about hype. It’s about endurance.

You don’t have to do everything. You just have to do this.

This season. This assignment. This day.

God doesn’t always remove the weight.Sometimes He just reinforces your shoulders.

And that’s still victory.
