"I Really Ain’t Got Time for That"

Writer: John YoungJohn Young

Matthew Chapter 4:1

"Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil."

Now, if we skip down to verse 10, Jesus declares:

"Get thee behind me, Satan! For it is written: Worship the Lord your God and serve Him only."

Time—Your Most Valuable Resource

One of the most interesting and overlooked parts of life is your time. It is your most valuable resource. Why? Because once it’s gone—it’s gone.

Every second that passes, every day, every week, every year—you cannot get it back. That’s why if you're going to spend your time, it ought to be worth something!

Anybody in here working for free? I hope not!

When you work, you either get paid an hourly wage, a salary, or you charge for your time. Because time is valuable! But what’s crazy is how some people will waste your time like it ain’t worth nothing!

People will take your time for granted—using up your valuable resource on nonsense and foolishness. And I don’t know about you, but I really ain’t got time for that. I don’t have time to waste because my time is valuable. And as I’m knocking on 60’s door, I realize time is running out. Can I get a witness?

Solomon said in Ecclesiastes: "There is a time to be born and a time to die." But in between that... That’s up to me. And the last thing I need is for people to be wasting my time!

Somebody just shout—"I ain’t got time for that!"

People Take You for Granted

Let me pick on Tim for a second—because I can! See, Tim knows I have a refrigerator in my office. He used to ask, "May I get something?" But now? Now he just opens it and asks, "What’s in here?" Ain’t even a "May I" no more! And yesterday, he made his own cup of coffee in my office—without even asking!

Y’all ever had folks in your life like that? They just take things for granted?

Let’s talk about Joe. Joe walks into my office, sees some candy on the desk, and just grabs it. No asking. No hesitation. Just helping himself.

Now, I don’t even like candy—I bought it for y’all! But it’s the principle of the thing!

And that’s how people will do your time. They will take, take, take—like it ain't costing you nothing. And that’s why I say again—I ain't got time for that!

Lessons Before the Blessing

Now, let’s get back to Matthew 4. Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. And here’s the thing—not every struggle you go through is from the devil. Some struggles are lessons before the blessing. Some things God allows to happen just to show you how strong you really are.

You prayed, "Lord, increase my faith." You prayed, "Lord, make me stronger." And now you’re mad because He put you in a situation to test that faith? Listen, no good teacher gives a test without first giving the answers. You already have the answers, but you don’t realize it until you face the test!

The Devil Comes at Your Weakest Moment

Look at Jesus—fasting for 40 days and 40 nights. Hungry. Physically weak. And that’s when the devil showed up.

See, the devil don’t attack you when you’re strong—he waits till you’re weak. He waits till you’re frustrated. He waits till you’re vulnerable. Because it’s not always your spirit that’s weak—it’s your flesh.

And that’s when temptation hits hardest. But Jesus fought back with the Word:

"Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God."

Somebody say "The Word is enough!"

Know Who You Are

Next, the devil says to Jesus:

"If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down."

Wait a minute—if? IF?

See, that’s how the enemy works. He tries to make you question who you are. But listen, I know who I am! Ain’t no if about it! I’m saved, sanctified, filled with the Holy Ghost, and running for my life! Ain’t no if! Somebody say "I am a child of God!"

Stop Wasting Time on the Devil

The devil came at Jesus three times. He didn’t get the message the first time. He didn’t get it the second time. And some of y’all got people in your life just like that. You tell them once—leave me alone. They keep coming back. You block them—they hit you up on another app.

Listen—I ain’t got time for that!

Jesus finally said, "Get thee behind me, Satan!"

And some of y’all need to tell some folks the same thing. Because the truth is—some people are just distractions. And if you’re not careful, they’ll pull you away from your purpose, your calling, and your destiny.

Final Word

At the end of the day, the enemy wants your attention. He’ll do anything to get it—temptation, distractions, lies. But you’ve got to stay focused.

Because I don’t know about you, but I really ain’t got time for that!

Come on, give God some praise!
