“When They Said Unto Me…”

Inviting People Into Worship - Text: Psalm 122:1

“I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the Lord.”

Glad Started With an Invitation

David didn’t wake up glad on his own.

He says, “I was glad when they said unto me…”

That means gladness started with somebody else speaking first.

Before there was worship, there was an invitation.

Before there was joy, there was encouragement.

Before there was movement, there was community.

David didn’t stumble into the house of the Lord—he was invited.

And that matters more than we think.

1. “They” Means Someone Cared Enough to Ask

David could’ve gone alone—but he didn’t.

Someone saw him where he was and said, “Come with me.”Someone recognized he needed the presence of God. Someone didn’t just pray for him—they pursued him.

Inviting someone to worship isn’t about filling seats. It’s about opening doors.

Doors to healing. Doors to clarity. Doors to God’s presence.

Sometimes the most spiritual thing you can do is extend an invitation.

2. “They” Means Faith Is Meant to Be Shared

Worship was never meant to be a solo experience.

David doesn’t say, “I was glad when I decided.”He says, “I was glad when they said…”

Faith grows in community.Praise gets louder together.Courage rises when someone walks with you.

Hebrews 10:25 reminds us not to forsake assembling together—not because God needs numbers, but because people need encouragement.

Your invitation could be the push someone needs to return.Or the permission someone needs to try again.

3. “They” Means Someone Spoke at the Right Moment

Timing matters.

David didn’t say they invited him years later—they spoke when he was ready to hear it.

Some people are closer than they look. Some people are one conversation away from worship. Some people are waiting for someone to notice.

Don’t underestimate the power of a simple:“Come worship with me.”

God often uses ordinary words to create holy moments.

4. “They” Means We All Have a Role

At some point, someone invited you. Someone texted. Someone called. Someone wouldn’t let you stay home.

Now it’s your turn.

We don’t just come to church—we bring people with us.

The kingdom grows by invitation, not assumption.

Conclusion: Be the “They”

David’s gladness didn’t start at the altar. It started with an invitation.

So here’s the challenge:

Who needs you to be the “they” in their story?

Who’s waiting on your voice, your text, your reach?

You don’t have to preach a sermon. You don’t have to have the perfect words.

Just say:“Come with me.”

Invitation to Worship

This is your invitation—not just to attend worship, but to invite someone else into it.

Come expecting. Come open. Come ready to meet God.

And bring somebody with you.

If this message has blessed, you, consider being a blessing.

Your genorosity is greatly appreciated.
